About SolitaireBay

Last updated

SolitaireBay is an independent solitaire site. It exists because many solitaire pages ask you to sign up, show offers over the cards or load slowly, and the game deserves a calmer table. The aim here is a table that loads quickly, works the same on a phone and on a laptop, and does not interrupt you.

Where the deals come from

SolitaireBay runs its own game engine. The deals are not copied from any other site. Each game has a pool of deals that were checked ahead of time: a solver program, run offline on the operator’s own computer, searched every deal for a winning line, and the line was then replayed move by move through the rules the site actually uses. Only deals that passed went into the pool.

This is why the default deals are labeled winnable. The label has a precise meaning. The solver sees every card, including the face-down ones, and it found at least one way to win. It does not mean that every deal is easy, or that a player who sees only the visible cards will find the line. There is also a selection effect: a pool holds only deals the solver could finish, so it leans toward deals that are easier to win than a random shuffle would be. Draw-three Klondike has its own pool, like every other game here. A deal that does not come from a pool is labeled as random and not checked. That is rare: it happens when the pool file cannot be loaded, or when you open a link to a random deal.

A deal can be shown in many disguises by swapping the suits in ways that keep the game identical, which makes a pool go further without changing the puzzle. The daily deal is picked from the same pools by date.

How the site works

SolitaireBay has no accounts. Your settings, saved games and stats live in your own browser, which also means they do not follow you to another device. The privacy page lists exactly what is stored, and the cookies page explains that the game itself sets none.

The pages are static files, delivered through a content network. There is no server code behind the game and nothing to log in to.

The rules and strategy on each game page are written for this site, from the rules the engine uses. You can start at how to play.

The site is free to play. It is meant to be supported by advertising at a later stage. When that happens, the privacy and cookies pages will be updated before any ad appears.

The cards

The faces of the cards come from a public-domain deck. The card backs and the emblem on them are original artwork made for SolitaireBay.

What it is not connected to

SolitaireBay has no affiliation with any other solitaire website, publisher, app or game brand, and it uses none of their text, images, logos or deal data. Names such as Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid and TriPeaks are used here in their everyday sense for the card games.

Feedback

Errors in a rules text, an unclear explanation, a deal that seems wrong or a feature that does not work on your device are all worth reporting. Write to the address on the contact page. Operator details are on the privacy page.
